Well, you know how she's dating Mr. Fancypants (Durmott Mulroney)? And how our Nick-Jess-shipping hearts could barely take that nasty turn of events? Well, let's just say we pretty much need a pacemaker after hearing the news that Nick is getting back together with his crazy ex, Caroline, and they are going to be talking about moving in together. It burns! It burns! Make it stop!! Plus, as we reported before, Justin Long (Jess' ex) is also coming back in the season finale. Gaah! We caught up last night with Lamorne Morris and he told us when Nick moves out, Tom Lennon (Reno 911) moves in, and Tom is apparently so funny in the role that the cast and crew has to take breathers between takes because they are laughing so hard. Which would all be well and good if this all weren't so tragic for Nick and Jess. Fail!

Basically, she threatens him with a horrible death if he breaks her granddaughter’s heart.

Johnson continues, "There's some really fun stuff in that one. One of the peaks is a slap fight, which I think is pretty funny." New Girl’s first season finale isn’t nailed down yet, but creator Liz Meriwether isn’t worried. “We’re not making Lost,” she joked while on the red carpet before the show’s panel at PaleyFest. But that’s not to say the finale won’t be fun. “We do have, hopefully, a really fun episode planned for the end that would just focus on all of them together,” she said.
Until he sees the finale in front of him, Jake Johnson is in the dark about what’s in store for Nick (and Nick and Jess, for that matter). He teased, however, that the episodes leading up to the closer will have some shockers in store for Nick. How so? “At the end of season 1, things are getting really interesting for Nick. I’m just reading the script and it’s surprising me,” he said. “A love interest comes in the picture for Nick that was really shocking for me.” And I don’t think he was talking about Nick’s man-crush on Dermot Mulroney (who will pop up soon as a love interest for Jess).
Where does that leave comedy’s newest ‘shipper-friendly pair? In the friend-zone most likely, especially considering Meriwether said the finale would “cement their friendship in a really cool way.” Well, good things come to those who wait, friends. Unfortunately, since Facebook does not have an option called “I accidentally hooked up with a guy in a relationship,” a status change to “It’s Complicated” will probably have to suffice.

New Girl's resident buff lothario Schmidt (Max Greenfield) has had his share of no-strings hookups, but his most recent conquest -- Jess' best friend Cece -- is a little problematic. Not only is Cece ashamed of being with the awkwardly arrogant Schmidt, but for some reason, she just keeps coming back to him while keeping Jess (Zooey Deschanel) from finding out about the affair. At some point this season after New Girl returns on Tuesday (9/8c, FOX), Jess will learn her best friend's secret.

So much so that Zooey Deschanel and Jake Johnson admitted thet are often told to tone down their chemistry in scenes! And if they don’t, the powers that be will do it for them. For instance, at the end of tonight’s cancer scare episode, Jess was supposed to give Nick a half-hug, but they changed it to a more platonic shoulder bump. Which is just as well, because both characters share a new love interest: Dermot Mulroney’s Russell. He’s “sophisticated and debonaire,” Deschanel said. “He first engages [Jess] in playful banter, and we end up starting up a little somethin’-somethin’.” And then so do Mulroney and the guys! They “are pretty taken with his character,” Deschanel revealed, because “they haven’t ever really been around a ‘man.’” Nick in particular is bromantically smitten. “He falls in love a bit,” Johnson acknowledged. “The big D has a little bit of charm to him.”
